Certificado de registro UE Girona: registering as a European resident
Once their stay in Girona passes three months, EU, EEA and Swiss citizens file form EX-18 to register as residents, at C/ Rajolers 7 according to policia.es. In return comes the certificado de registro, a green paper with your NIE.
When registering becomes a must
Anyone whose everyday life has moved here: a teacher from Perpignan who has taken a post in the city, an Italian researcher at the Universitat de Girona, a German couple leaving the coast for a village in the Garrotxa. A long holiday calls for nothing; a move does. If buying a home already gave you a NIE on its own, that same number goes onto the certificate.
Evidence that matches how you live
- Employed: the contract, or a letter from the employer
- Self-employed: your registration as an autónomo with the tax office and the Seguridad Social
- Retired, or living off savings: evidence that the household’s means are sufficient, plus health cover, public (an S1 form, for example) or private
- Studying: the enrolment letter, health cover, and a declaration signed by you that your resources suffice
- Joining a European partner or parent: proof of the family tie and of that person’s own registration
For the appointment
- The EX-18, completed and signed by you
- A valid national identity card or passport, and a copy of it
- The evidence from the list above
- The Modelo 790 código 012, paid
- Your booking confirmation
The Girona address
policia.es lists the régimen comunitario, the procedures for European citizens, at the brigade’s office on C/ Rajolers 7 (972 416 909), and at no other unit of the province. That is neither the street it gives for a number on its own, C/ Cristobal Grober 12, nor the card’s, C/ Santa Eugènia 145. Choose the EU registration trámite on the booking pages, with Girona as the province, and the confirmation will name the door.
Once it is in your hands
There is no photograph on the certificate, which is why officials will want to see your passport or identity card alongside it. If you have not done so yet, register on the padró at your address, and have the certificate updated if you later move house.
In Girona
Europeans living in Girona, Salt, Figueres or the coastal towns register at the one address policia.es gives for the régimen comunitario, C/ Rajolers 7. French neighbours who only cross the border to work are a separate case: they remain non-residents and need the bare number.
Questions
I live in Perpignan and only work across the border. Do I register?
No. Registering is meant for those whose home is in Spain. A cross-border worker who stays a resident of France may still need a NIE for the job, which is the EX-15 route.
Is the green certificate a residence card?
No. It certifies a registration and carries no photograph. Relatives from outside the EU receive a card instead, on form EX-19.
Certificado de registro UE Girona: is it done at Cristobal Grober?
No: policia.es lists the EU procedures at C/ Rajolers 7, and the Cristobal Grober entry does not mention them. Book the EU registration trámite and go where your confirmation says.
Must I be on the padró first?
Not always, but officers may still want to see your padró entry, which shows your address more plainly than anything else. Registering at the Ajuntament beforehand can spare you a second visit.
