Huellas TIE Girona: fingerprints first, then the card

Non-EU residents apply for the TIE in person after they arrive, at a fingerprint appointment (toma de huellas) with form EX-17. In Girona city, policia.es lists the issue of the card at C/ Santa Eugènia 145; Figueres, Lloret de Mar and other towns of the province list it too.

Who needs one

Its full name, Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero, says what it is: a plastic card showing your NIE, your photograph and the kind of residence you hold. It is for anyone from outside the EU who comes to live in the province for a long stay on a visa or an authorisation: students, employees, families joining a resident, retirees on the non-lucrative route. British residents protected by the Withdrawal Agreement hold one as well, with wording of its own.

Book soon after you land

The rules give a limited period after entry to apply for the card, so book the fingerprint appointment as soon as you have an address. On the booking pages, choose Girona as the province and the fingerprint procedure for a TIE.

The papers for the day

  • The EX-17, completed and signed
  • Passport (with its visa, if you came in on one) plus a copy
  • One recent photo in colour, white background, passport size
  • Proof that the Modelo 790 código 012 is paid
  • If Spain granted your authorisation, its resolución (the written decision)
  • A padró volant, in case proof of address is requested

Where it happens

“Expedición TIE”, the issue of the card, is what policia.es lists at the brigade’s office on C/ Santa Eugènia 145 (972 069 348). Beyond the city, the same directory lists it at the comisarías of Figueres, Lloret de Mar and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and at the units of La Jonquera, Puigcerdà, Portbou and Camprodon. Your confirmation gives the office for your booking; follow it, even if a neighbour went elsewhere.

One more detail on Carrer de Santa Eugènia: number 146 is the Centre Cívic, where the Ajuntament runs a padró office. The police office for the card is number 145.

Once your prints are taken

The officer hands you a resguardo, proof that the card is in production. Keep it with your passport. The card is collected later, in person, where you are told; take the resguardo and the passport along.

In Girona

For non-EU residents of Girona and Salt, the card has a door of its own on C/ Santa Eugènia 145, apart from Cristobal Grober, where policia.es lists the NIE on its own, and from the European procedures on Rajolers. Residents of Figueres, Lloret de Mar or Sant Feliu de Guíxols may find their own town’s comisaría on the confirmation instead.

Questions

Huellas TIE Girona: which street?

C/ Santa Eugènia 145, in the city, is where policia.es lists TIE issue. Whatever any forum says, go where your booking confirmation sends you.

My card is not ready yet. May I travel abroad?

Yes, within the terms of your visa while it is valid. If it has expired and the card is still pending, read about the return authorisation before you go.

My permit was granted in Spain. Do I still give fingerprints?

Yes. A favourable decision on your authorisation is followed by the fingerprint appointment with the police; bring the resolución with you.

Are the TIE and the NIE the same thing?

No. The TIE carries the NIE, but it is a card, with your photograph and your status on it; the NIE is only the number.
